Paris Region Facts and Figures 2024 provides an overview of the economic dynamism and social life of Paris Region, positioning it among the top regions in Europe and worldwide. It accounts for 18.8% of France’s population on 2% of the national territory.

  • Paris Region gathers 23.1% of all jobs in France. It employs over a third of all French executives.
  • It is home to 28% of all students in France. 
  • Paris Region takes first place for the second year running in the ranking of the “Large European Regions of the Future”. According to fDi Intelligence Paris Region ranks #1 worldwide for foreign direct investments in Renewable Energies, Cleantech and Electric Vehicles.
  • It ranks #1 in Europe for its R&D workforce (37.9%) and #1 for R&D expenditure.
  • A quarter of Paris area is covered by four Regional Nature Parks. Farmland covers almost half of the region. Only 22% of region is made up urban areas.
  • Paris is the international capital of fashion and creation. It is the world capital for shopping (on average, 1 million people pass in front of a typical Champs-Elysées store each month).
  • Paris Region is home to the Rungis National Interest Market, the world's largest fresh produce market for professionals.

  • 288,872 new businesses and the largest real estate market in Europe (Paris performs #2 for overall real estate prospects).
  • Situated at the nexus of Europe, businesses located in Paris Region enjoy convenient access to a vast market comprising over 500 million customers and key European urban centers.
  • Paris Region will host the majority of sporting events for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (100% of training venues [excluding competition venues] within 20 minutes of the Village. 100% of venues accessible by eco-friendly public transport).
